Laptop running slowly and hanging

Update Time: 2023-09-11 15:55:31

1. Windows system update or download update will take up a lot of resources, which may cause the computer to hang

The new computer will check for updates when it is turned on for the first time. If there are patches to be updated, the computer will automatically update when it is connected to the power supply. It is recommended that you wait for the update installation to complete and try. (You can check whether there is a "windowsUpdata process" in the task manager, or check whether there is a patch package being installed and downloaded in "Settings" > "Update and Security")

2. Check whether multiple third-party antivirus software is installed on the computer

Check whether multiple anti-virus software is installed on the computer, please keep only one test, because the anti-virus software may have product conflicts and cause the system to freeze. Enter "Control Panel" in the search box on the taskbar and open it, and select "Uninstall a program" to uninstall the corresponding software. The specific operations are as follows:

    a. Press the "Win" key + "R" key combination to bring up the Start Run window.

    b. Enter "appwiz.cpl" in the edit box in the run window, and then click the "OK" button.

    c. Right-click the unnecessary antivirus software, and click the pop-up menu item "Uninstall/Change (U)".

3. Check for viruses or malware software installed

If your computer runs slowly and freezes after installing a piece of software, it may be that your computer has accidentally installed malware or is infected with a virus. Please use it after uninstalling malware or killing viruses. The specific operation is the same as that of uninstalling third-party antivirus software.

4. Clean up system background running programs

Check whether the CPU utilization is too high, please close some processes with high CPU utilization or abnormal display before use. When multiple high-power applications or abnormal applications are opened, the CPU usage will be high, which will cause the computer to run slowly and freeze. The specific operations are as follows:

    a. Right-click the blank space of the taskbar or the start menu, select "Task Manager", select the application with large memory and disk usage in "Processes", and click "End Task".

    b. Click the CPU and memory headers respectively to check whether there are applications that occupy CPU or memory and are not needed temporarily. If there is, right-click the specified application and select "End Task (E)" in the pop-up menu, or directly click the "End Task" button in the lower right corner of the window with the left mouse button.

5. Clean up the drive

Insufficient system disk space can cause the system to run slowly and freeze.

* Operations involving disks may result in data loss. It is recommended that you back up all important data on the disk in advance to avoid any loss.

a. Right-click the C drive in "This PC" and click "Disk Cleanup" under the "General" tab of the "Properties" window. Select the file to be deleted, click "OK", and click "Delete File" in the pop-up information box.

This method can also be used for D, E, F, and other disks.

b. Optimize and check the drive. This operation does not need to be done frequently, but only once a week. Right-click the C drive in "This PC", select the "Properties > Tools" tab, and click the "Check" button to check the disk for errors. If so, try to repair it, click the "Optimize" button, select the disk to be optimized, and click "Optimization", the recommended frequency is 1 time/week.

6. Clean up junk files and temporary files

Use system optimization software to clean up system junk and temporary files. For the specific method, refer to the description of the specific system optimization software.

7. Check if the computer vents are blocked

Make sure that the computer is in a normal cooling state to avoid blocking the ventilation openings. When the computer is running, heat will be generated. When the heat reaches a certain level, the CPU has a self-protection mechanism that will reduce the main frequency, thus causing the computer to run slowly and freeze.

8. Reset the computer

If the above methods cannot solve the problem, please back up the data in advance and use the system restore function to restore the computer to the factory state.
