Sleep, Hibernation, Shutdown mode Introduction

Update Time: 2024-06-27 09:08:13

"Sleep"

"Sleep" is an energy-saving mode in which the computer changes from working to waiting state. You can turn on the sleep mode in the power options. When you turn on the sleep mode, all the system's work will be saved in the memory, and the power supply to all devices except the memory will be turned off.

Wake up from sleep: When you use your computer again, click the wired mouse or press any key on the keyboard to wake up the computer from sleep and let the power supply restart power for other devices.

Features: Waking up is fast, and the computer can be restored to the mode it was in before you left it in a short time. But you can't let the memory power off, otherwise data will be lost.

To set the time to enter the sleep mode:

1. Click the desktop Windows icon > Settings icon > select "System".

2. Click "Power & Sleep" and set the time to enter the sleep mode according to the interface prompt.

Note: If you want your computer to only lock the screen and not enter sleep mode, just change the time to enter the "Sleep" mode to "Never".

"Hibernation"

"Hibernation" is a power-saving mode designed by Microsoft for mobile computers. In this mode, all data in memory is stored in a specific space on the hard disk, and then all power supply is cut off.

Wake up from hibernation: When the computer is hibernating, you need to press the power on button again to restore the temporarily stored memory data in the hard disk to the memory and you can return to the mode before you left.

Features: The computer can be restored to the mode it was in before the power failure, and it can be completely powered off, but it takes longer to recover and takes up more hard disk space.

To set the time to enter the hibernation mode:

1. Click the desktop Windows icon > Settings icon > select "System".

2. Click "Power & Sleep > Additional power settings".

3. Click "Change plan settings".

4. Click "Change advanced power settings".

5.  In the pop-up "Power Options" dialog box, click "Sleep > Hibernate after", according to the screen prompts to set the time to enter the hibernation mode.

"Shutdown"

The "shutdown" and "hibernation" are very similar in that they both cut off power completely, so the recovery time is also very long.

The difference between "shutdown" and "hibernation" is that "shutdown" does not save the previous mode, so when you restart, a new working mode is created. You need to run the programs you need again.
